    The Software Improvement Group (SIG) and the Hogeschool van Amsterdam (HvA) have come together to create the Software Energy Footprint Lab (#SEFL). The official opening will be at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam (NL) on February 16, 2012.

  • Port of Rotterdam’s Software System Rewarded with Five-star Rating
    October 19, 2011
    Today SIG and the German certification institute TÜV Informationstechnik GmbH (TÜViT) awarded a five-star software product certificate to the Port of Rotterdam. The General Manager of TÜViT, Mr. Antonius Sommer presented the certificate to Mr. Herman Hanekamp, ICT Programme Manager Harbour Master Informationservices at Port of Rotterdam. The Port of Rotterdam is only the second organization ever to have achieved the full five star accreditation.

  • Report Workshop Green Software Architecture

    Tuesday 7 June, Green IT Amsterdam Region and SIG organized the first event of the Green Software Community: the workshop Green Software Architecture. The 22 participants from 14 organizations set out to take the collective first steps in greening software by exchanging information on the status and history of energy efficiency efforts on a software level in their respective organizations.

    For the first time the SIG has evaluated the source-code written by bachelor students of the Hogeschool Utrecht. Following last years approach for Delft Technical University, the students receive feedback and recommendations on their code after which they get a chance to make improvements.

  • 1 in 12 information systems will fail with migration to new Internet Protocol
    September 27, 2010
    Research done by SIG shows that 1 in 12 information systems will cease working with the imminent deployment of version 6 of the Internet Protocol. The research looked at 132 systems currently operational in Western Europe. On average per system, € 2.4 million has been invested to build or procure these systems.

    Spreadsheets are software developed by non-programmers. They are used for accounting, project management, resource planning, and many more business functions. Often, they are initially developed by a single employee for his or her own benefit but then get shared and enhanced and may grow out into full-blown business-critical applications. Unfortunately, spreadsheets are notoriously error prone and problematic to maintain.

    The Amsterdam Inventor Dinner 2009 will take place on Thursday 18 June 2009 in the presence of Mayor Cohen. SIG and the Centre for Mathematics and Computer Science (Centrum voor Wiskunde and Informatica - CWI) will be competing against other companies and institutions for the Amsterdam Inventor Award at the Inventor Dinner.

    This year the organisation of the Company Elections for North-Holland received 85 applications. The Software Improvement Group is one of the ten nominated companies for the prize for the Best Company of North-Holland. In 2007 SIG was also nominated for this prize and we ended up in the top 5.

  • Tobias Kuipers member of Program Committee of National Architecture Conference

    Tobias Kuipers has joined the program committee for the “Landelijk Architectuur Congres” (LAC) or National Architecture Conference. This is the premier gathering of IT and Enterprise architects in the Netherlands. The conference has been running for over ten years, and last year managed to draw an 800 people crowd. The two days of the conference are packed with keynotes, relevant industry reports, case studies, and the latest innovations from the academic world.

This research-project is a collaboration between the Software Engineering Research Group of the TU Delft and the Software Improvement Group.
