Architecture is everywhere, but where are the architects?

November 2008
The book "Architectuur maakt de toekomst mogelijk" (Architecture Enables the Future) was introduced during the LAC Congress on 26 and 27 November. Tobias Kuipers, Technical Manager at SIG, wrote the chapter on "Architecture is everywhere, but where are the architects?".

Architects frequently supply plans and architectural ideas that are difficult to realize in actual practice. Builders do not always have a chance to provide feedback for the architect in order to adapt the plan. And de architects are not responsible for the quality of the work. This combination gives rise to suboptimal systems that may easily fail; ultimately causing IT projects to cost a lot more than necessary. The author recommends five easy-to-implement strategies to reduce the costs of IT projects and to enhance their quality.
