SIG has become a member of the Green IT Consortium!
November 11, 2010
For the last 10 years, SIG has helped its customers build maintainable and sustainable software. Sustainability is more than maintainability, it also relates to energy consumption. Building on SIG's expertise in analysing software systems, SIG conducted research on application-induced energy consumption.
The state-of-the-art in terms of hardware, networks and data centers is already fairly optimized for energy savings, however SIG has found that with respect to application-induced energy consumption very little has been done. SIG has dived into this vacuum and found that significant savings can be achieved by designing, building and implementing 'greener' applications.
Energy consumption can be greatly reduced by taking it into account from the start of the development project. It is important to take sustainability into account in the analysis of software. SIG has developed two Sustainability Scans at the level of development projects and developed applications.
SIG supports the Green IT Consortium and has become a partner to share experiences and knowledge, and to develop new national and international projects. The consortium consists of companies in the ICT sector and energy sector, regional authorities, knowledge institutes and related companies.
